Community Connection
A large part of Hebrew Health Care's success in our first century results from our emphasis on becoming and staying connected with the community we serve.
More than 400 people actively volunteer their time to help Hebrew Health Care provide the best senior care in the Hartford area. Volunteers offer a special dimension to our programs and services that reinforce our mission, enhance the care we provide, and enriches the lives of our residents. Another important way in which we connect with the community at large is through education and training. When health care professionals in the Greater Hartford area seek training in geriatrics and gerontology, they very often turn to Hebrew Health Care, a widely-recognized leader in senior health care. Physicians, pharmacists, dentists, registered nurses, social workers, nursing assistants, administrative personnel and therapists all receive clinical and academic training in our facility to better understand and address the special medical and psychosocial needs of older adults.
We participate with 32 programs in 24 undergraduate and postgraduate domains in medicine alone. Our programs include the national training of ASCP and clinical rotations for a variety of local colleges and universities. We are particularly proud of our support for Connecticut Tutorials, a DVD to help physicians, medical students, and allied health workers learn additional bedside examination skills. These programs provide the critical hands-on training that assures current and future generations of older adults that caring, compassionate and highly skilled healthcare professionals will be available to meet their specialized needs.
Many of the individuals receiving training in our programs are so inspired by our approach to geriatric medicine that they go on to make their career within our organization. And those who practice elsewhere nevertheless remain part of the Hebrew Health Care family through a steady stream of referrals, born of the superb training they received here.
